Thank you for hanging out with me! From day to day you never know what life will throw at you. And it will often be this way in my blog as well :) But lest RUN WILD and LIVE FREE in this amazing adventure together!
I grew up (well about 4 years of high school) going to Ft. Myers Beach Florida with my family for spring break. It is where I fell in love with the state of Florida. First place I put my toes in the white sands of the beaches there. I am from Michigan so we do not have white soft sand. We had many adventures on the island and many memories made. Memories I will cherish forever.
When I we went back December 2019 it was very disappointing to see the turn this area had taken. For sure the area was a tourist spot back when I was in high school. But now the area feels dirty. Run down. Too many abandoned buildings and many homeless/ transient people. It use to feel safe. It use to feel as though it was a family atmosphere. Now, I would not advise going for a walk alone or after dark in the area.
Time square has been a staple for this small island town for so many years. It use to hold many mom/pop shops and vendor carts. Bringing in to town fun items to purchase that you can’t find in the stores. These are no longer allowed in time square with out very expensive permits.
The place I once felt was paradise is no longer such. I really hope that the area is just going through a transition and that it will get back to the family and fun atmosphere it once was. I hope that the locals see the direction it is going and they themselves step up to make a change. Not only to their buildings but in their own personal attitudes. We didn’t meet many “happy” people who were working or in the area other than fellow tourists. I mean I get it, it is busy and always hopping. But one of the main attractions to Florida and tourist areas is the welcoming people of the area you go to.
Ft. Myers Beach….I thank you for the years of memories. I will be watching from afar to see if there is a transition. You have a gem of a location. I hope to one day be able to say it is a paradise again! As nothing beats this view coming over the bridge for the first time…..
